How do I rotate or flip text, images, or other elements in a report or name badge?

Updated over a month ago

Sometimes, you want to rotate or flip a field of text, such as to create table place cards with the person’s name upside down on one side (so they can be folded in half), or to print envelopes that will be fed sideways into a printer.

Rotating or flipping images is done a little differently – see separate section below.

The process is pretty straightforward, however we recommend you have finalized any changes to the text, font style, size etc. before rotating.

If you want something to appear as a vertical ‘mirror image’, use gridlines to ensure spacing and alignment are identical in your ‘flipped’ content.

You need to rotate each element individually.

The process for Reports is described below – Name Badges are similar, but you must also remember to save inside the editor AND save the updated badge (after closing the editor).

To rotate a text box or field

  • While in the Report / Name Badge Editor), select the field you want to rotate.

  • Under Label Tasks, in the Angle field, type a number for how many degrees of rotation you want. (i.e. 90 degrees to go from horizontal to vertical, 180 to go upside-down).

Save the report/name badge editor before closing.

If it's a name badge, save once you close the editor to update the name badge layout.

To rotate backwards, type a negative number i.e. put a hyphen / minus sign in front, for example: -90

Things to remember:

  • Content: Rotated fields display only one line of multi-line content (e.g. if there are three functions you want listed, only the first one will appear in a rotated field).

  • Placement when content will change: Your rotated text field may look fine if the content is static (unchanging), such as for your event name. But if this is a dynamic field (i.e. the content will vary, based on the data), allow for how different content will appear when rotated.

To rotate or change the orientation of an image in a report or name badge

The report / name badge editor doesn’t currently support image rotation, but you can easily rotate an image in an external tool, then save it and add it to your report or badge.

Here’s how:

Open the image (for example, using an image editor) You can use applications like Microsoft Paint, Photoshop, or any commonly available photo-editing software. [You can even paste the image into Microsoft Word, select it and then rotate it with the curved arrow symbol at the top, then right-click and “save as picture”].

Rotate the image – In an image editor, for upside-down rotation (180°), use the rotate function within your editor (e.g., in Paint select "Rotate" → "Rotate 90°" twice). - Adjust as necessary to achieve the desired orientation.

Save the rotated image – for example, using the "Save As" option) with a file name and in a location that makes it easy to retrieve.

Upload the adjusted image Import the newly rotated image into the report/name badge editor and position it as needed.
