A self check-in kiosk can dramatically reduce wait times and lines. This portal allows your attendees to check-in to an event either by typing in their name and searching OR by scanning a barcode/QR code (when you've added a laser scanning device, via USB port).
We recommend that when you set up your Self Check-in Kiosk App as a computer kiosk, you do so in a Google Chrome browser running in Kiosk Mode. That way, your attendees won't see the URL address bar or other menus.
This mode also sends the badge straight to the printer without showing Chrome's print preview, provided the badge printer is the only printer installed on the kiosk computer.
You would normally set up multiple kiosks, each one linked to a printer.
Setting up the Chrome Browser shortcut
Close Chrome completely, including from the system tray (right-click the Chrome icon, then select Exit).
Create a new shortcut for Google Chrome on your desktop [right-click on your desktop, select "New", then "Shortcut", then browse to where Chrome is located - most likely C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe]
Right click on your shortcut and select Properties.
You're going to add some extra "switches" or "instructions" to the shortcut, to tell it to open Chrome in kiosk mode, and go straight to printing when required.
In the target section, you will see a link to a Chrome executable file, or exe (ending in chrome.exe). After the closing quotation mark ("), type a space, then "--kiosk" another space, "--kiosk-printing", another space, and the full URL of your self check-in kiosk, including the https://. The text you add should look a bit like this:
--kiosk --kiosk-printing https://[URL, from your Self Check-In Kiosk App]
So now the whole "Target" field in your Chrome shortcut should now look something like the below (scroll to see it all):
"C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --kiosk --kiosk-printing https://yourcompanyalias.eventsair.com/SelfCheckinKiosk/event-name/kiosk-app-name/
Select Apply and then OK.
When you're ready to open the Kiosk:
Make sure Chrome is fully closed, including from the system tray. If Chrome is already running, the shortcut opens a normal Chrome window instead of the kiosk.
Have your default printer set correctly. [Your badge printer should be the only printer on the kiosk computer. Remove any other printers, including 'print to PDF' virtual printers. You don't want your attendee having to select a printer.]
From your desktop, double click on your new shortcut icon. This will open your app in full screen kiosk mode.
To close the screen, select alt+F4 on your keyboard.
