Creating Goals
Updated over 2 months ago

Goals are specific objectives you define to encourage attendees to take certain actions (visit an exhibitor, take part in an activity, go to a session, post to the EventStream private social network, and the like).

When an attendee reaches a goal, they may be able to get a virtual reward such as a badge, and/or earn points to get a physical reward (prizes, vouchers, etc.).

When you define a Goal, you will also define important settings such as:

  • Goal Type

  • Points/Mystery Points

  • Display and Active Time

  • Inventory and Personal Limits

  • Descriptions and Additional Instructions

Goal Library

To help you build your Goals, we've created a list of sample goals (Goal Library) for you to review and use for your own event.

This Goal Library includes goal types, points and personal limits. You can modify a goal once you've chosen to use it for your event.

Creating a Goal (except for Trivia Questions)

Here are the settings you'll define when setting up a new Goal for your event:

  • Name – Enter the name of your new Goal.

  • Description – Enter a description. This appears in the Engage function in the attendee app.

  • Type – Choose your Goal Type here. See Goal Types for additional information.

  • Icon – You can use the default icon or import your own custom icon here. Imported icons must be 144x144 pixels.

  • Points – Points are earned when an attendee completes this Goal. Accumulated points are displayed in the Engage function in the attendee app, and are used to earn tickets for prize drawings and/or converted to coins for use in prize redemptions.

  • Mystery Points Check Box – When you check this box, points that a goal earns are hidden until the goal is completed.

  • Goal Order – You can order the view of Goals in the attendee app by setting the goal order here. Zero (0) will place the goal at the top of the list, with descending numbers controlling the order of goals.

  • Restrict Display Time – If you set a time and date, you can control when a specific goal is visible in the attendee app.

  • Restrict Active Time – This setting controls when the current goal becomes available to be earned by the attendee.

  • Inventory – You can set an inventory for each goal. Once an inventory is used up, the goal will disappear from the attendee app.

  • Personal Limit – You can define a personal limit, which is the number of times an attendee can earn points from a specific goal.

  • Additional Instructions – You can enter any additional instructions here.

  • Make Inactive – Check this box to make the goal inactive. You can always return to make the goal active again later.

Creating a Trivia Question Goal

Trivia Question goals have a different format, so you'll see these options:

  • Trivia Question

  • Correct Answer

  • Incorrect Answer 1

  • Incorrect Answer 2

  • Incorrect Answer 3

Like all other goals, you can create as many trivia questions as you need. A good use of Trivia Questions is to use Display Time to have Trivia Questions appear at different times during your event.

Example Goals

Every event planner and every event will have different objectives and requirements for gamification, so we recommend spending time planning beforehand to engage your attendees with different aspects of your event.

Example One – Trivia Questions and the Trivia Master Badge

Let's say that you want to create a trivia contest about your organization: Who founded the company, how many countries do you have offices in, and so on.

  • Create a series of five trivia questions, and have them appear in the attendee app at random times throughout the event.

  • To really encourage participation, you also create a badge called the Trivia Master Badge, which recognizes attendees who answer all five trivia questions correctly.

Example Two – Morning Exercise Check-In

You’ve introduced morning exercise sessions as a way for attendees to connect with each other and start the day on a positive mental note. Since this is a new addition to your event, you want to encourage participation at the morning sessions.

  • You could either set up a beacon or a scannable QR code on a sign at the Exercise Session. Announce that 5,000 points are awarded for each morning's exercise session. All they need to do is use their Attendee App (under Engage) to scan the QR code on the wall (or have the beacon check them in automatically).

  • Since your event runs across four days, you give everyone a personal inventory of 4 so they can earn points for each morning’s exercise session.

  • You also create a Superstar Badge to recognize attendees who attend at least two of the exercise sessions.

Example Three – Encourage Attendee Networking

You've noticed it usually takes a while for attendees to warm up and start talking with each other at the opening night function, even though by the end of the conference, everyone says that networking is one of the most important aspects of the event.

  • You decide to create an attendee networking goal that encourages your attendees to swap contact details using the Attendee App Contact Exchange function.

  • Using the Contact Exchange goal type, you decide to award 1000 points for every contact exchange that occurs, up to a limit of 5.

  • You limit the personal inventory to 5 (to avoid 'spamming'). Attendees can exchange more contacts, but will only get points for the first 5.

  • You create a couple of badges called the Silver Handshake and the Gold Handshake badge, which recognizes attendees who make one exchange (Silver), and five exchanges (Gold).

Example Four – EventStream Goals

Along with EventStream Engage, you are also rolling out the EventStream Private Social Network at your annual conference. Since you are a little nervous about getting your attendees to use EventStream, you decide to gamify a few aspects to encourage participation.

  • You create a few EventStream Goals. You decide that posting photos and commenting on posts are the two most important aspects of your program, so you create two new goals:

    • Hotshot Photographer

    • EventStream Rockstar

  • Hotshot Photographer awards points for the first five times that an attendee posts photos. EventStream Rockstar awards points for the first five posts they add a comment to.

  • Of course, you create corresponding Badges to recognize your attendees for their efforts!

Goal Types

The following Goal Types are available:

  • Check-In - Event

  • Check-In - Function

  • Check-In – Any Session

  • Complete Session Survey

  • Contact Exchange – Exchange Contact Information

  • EventStream – Comment on Post

  • EventStream – Post

  • EventStream – Post with Photo

  • EventStream – Post with Video

  • EventStream – Others Comment on Your Post

  • Exhibitor Lead Scan

  • Exhibitor Stand Visit

  • External API

  • Install and Log into Attendee App

  • Live Poll Feedback

  • Live Poll Participation

  • Location (scan QR code)

  • Location (using beacon)

  • Trivia Question

  • Upload Photo

Each Goal type can have points assigned to its completion, and you can always use goal types more than once.

Buying Your Own Beacons?

If you purchase beacons directly from EventsAir, all settings are preset and the beacon is ready to use. If you purchase your own beacons, you will need to program several items within the beacon.
