Can I add an Attendee Assistant (chatbot) to my Attendee App?

Attendee App – Attendee Assistant (powered by Air Intelligence)

Beta public release

Here's some information to get you started with our latest Air Intelligence AI-powered feature, Attendee Assistant in the Attendee App. Please note this feature is in the beta phase - we'll keep you updated with any changes.

Attendees can get instant chat-based answers to all kinds of event-related questions - session recommendations, speaker info, and more - depending on what information you've uploaded to the app.

For best performance, check the "Beta experience tips" at the end of this article.

What is Attendee Assistant?

Your Attendee App can include an Attendee Assistant, which is a built-in chatbot, responding instantly with quick, accurate answers using information in the app. This helps cut down on repeat questions and support requests.

Adding Attendee Assistant to your Attendee App

In the Attendee App builder (Modern theme only), in the Details tab, look under the AI Settings tab for the “Enable Ask AI” checkbox.

  • You can change the label on the button attendees will see in the app (the default is “Ask AI…”).

  • There are also default values for Chat Interface Title [“How can I help you?”] and Chat Placeholder Text, [“Ask about this event”] - these can also be changed.

Where does it get answers from?

Any data in the following components which is visible to attendees will also be visible to the Attendee Assistant.

  • Agenda

  • Speakers

  • Attendees

  • Exhibitors

  • Sponsors

  • Static content

If the component has visibility filtered, these rules will be respected by the Assistant.

More components may be added to this list in future, along with additional ways to add content.

Giving the right information

The more information you provide, the more helpful the Attendee Assistant can be. For example, we recommend creating a Static content component as an “FAQ” section with clear questions and answers like…

  • What is the venue address?

  • What’s the Wi-Fi password?

  • Where can I store my luggage?

…and any other questions you know from previous experience your attendees are likely to ask.

You may also want to include a brief guide on how to use the app itself, for example based on this article.

What do attendees see?

Once enabled, the Attendee Assistant will automatically appear to logged in attendees as “Ask AI…” [or whatever label you’ve put on the button, if you changed it from the default when you enabled the feature.]

Attendees consent to their chat being used to improve the Assistant.
Then they can start chatting:

Device/Version Requirements for attendees

Apple devices: iOS needs to be 16.4 (March 2023) or above

Android devices: Browser needs to be Chrome 62 (2017) or above

Attendees with older devices/software may experience display issues with the assistant.

Beta experience tips

We’ll continue to fine tune and enhance the functionality of this feature throughout the public beta period.

The more information and data you can provide to the chatbot, the more useful attendees will find it. As detailed below, we recommend making use of the currently supported components (i.e. Agenda, Speakers, Attendees, Exhibitors and Sponsors) and as much FAQ type content as you can provide.

  • New data may take up to five minutes to be available to the Assistant.

  • Also, check your app data refresh settings (manual or automatic) to ensure they're appropriate.

Minimum recommended setup

Before enabling this feature, we recommend the following are in place:

  • Static Content / FAQs — This is the most important component for common attendee questions. Each Static Content item is searchable by the Attendee Assistant.

  • Agenda — Ensure sessions, times, and room/location details are accurate.

  • Speaker, Exhibitor, and Sponsor profiles — If your app includes these components, populate names, bios, and descriptions.

What it can’t do

The chatbot can only draw on data that exists in your app. If information hasn't been added — for example, the Wi-Fi password isn't in a Static Content item — it won't be able to respond accurately. It also can’t answer questions such as “where is the nearest café” unless you’ve added that information to Static Content.
