This article tells you more about setting up an Attendee Single Sign-On integration.
This is used to allow attendees to sign in to an interactive registration site, authenticating their details via an identity provider/access management system you’re also using.
You can also use the Attendee Verification feature to make it easier for attendees to log into a registration site and have information pre-filled, because they’re in your CRM or other external database - see the article on Attendee Verification.
If you want to allow other EventsAir users in your team to use single sign-on to access the EventsAir platform, please refer to information about EventsAir User Single Sign-On.
If you don’t see the "Attendee SSO" option in EventsAir, please contact your Account Manager.
Each organization will configure their own identity/access management systems, so your setup may be a little different to what’s in this article. This is a guide only, and is subject to your organization's specific security and operations, and changes by external platforms.
Our suggested method is to use the OpenID Connect Protocol (OIDC). This is a widely supported protocol and lets you easily set up a connection between your identity provider (such as Microsoft, or your Association/Membership Management platform), and EventsAir.
If your identity provider doesn't support OIDC, we also have SAML support for Microsoft Entra (e.g. if you’re using Attendee SSO to let colleagues register for an internal event). Read more here.
More about linking your identity management platform
To let attendees sign in by authenticating using their Microsoft, Google, your Association/Membership management platform account (or something similar), you’ll need to create a connection to the correct platform, using the OIDC protocol. The general outline of how to do this is below:
First, you’ll need some type of API connection to your ID provider, that will generate your OIDC credentials such as the client secret. Ask your IT department to help you set this up.
Create a new External Connection in EventsAir (and a link from your identity provider)
Log into EventsAir, and keep the two screens (EventsAir and your identity management provider) open side-by-side so you can copy information across.
In EventsAir, go to Application Setup
Select External Connections
Select Attendee Single Sign-On from the left-hand menu.
Inside the Attendee Single Sign-On Setup screen:
Give your Attendee Single Sign-On Setup a name – this is just your internal name for the setup, as you may have more than one.
Choose the SSO Integration Type - in this case, OpenID Connect.
Enter details from your identity provider into EventsAir and vice versa.
You’ll need to enter the Redirect URL into your identity management application.
You’ll need to add the issue URL, a Client id, and Client Secret into EventsAir.
Your finished setup will look something like this:
In EventsAir, save the SSO set up, and close the External Connections settings panel.
Add Attendee Single Sign-On to an Interactive (registration) site:
Use the interactive (registration) site builder to add the Sign-In Page component at the very top.
Configure the Sign-In Page Component:
Click on the cog icon for the Sign In Page component.
Expand the component with the arrow.
Your Sign-In page may look slightly different, but you need to select Attendee SSO and nominate your chosen SSO connection.
We recommend ONLY checking the box for “Enable Single Sign-On” and disabling other options.
Adjust the default heading “Single Sign On” if needed.
Select the name of your Attendee Single Sign-On setup from the dropdown menu.
What it looks like
After enabling Single Sign-On, attendees going to the interactive (registration) site will see the button to Login with SSO.
The “Next” button can't be used until they’ve signed in.
After clicking “Login with SSO”, they’ll be prompted to enter their details, for example for their Microsoft account:
After entering their details and password, they’ll be logged immediately into the registration site and their name and email address will be already completed in the site:
To pre-populate other fields when your attendee signs into the registration site, use the Attendee Verification feature. Read more here.
